Zinc Passivation

Zinc passivation is a chemical treatment applied to zinc-coated metals to enhance corrosion resistance by forming a protective, inert layer on the surface. Zinc passivation, also known as chromate or conversion coating, is a process that creates a thin, protective layer on zinc or zinc-alloy surfaces. This layer chemically reacts with the zinc to form a zinc-chromium complex, which acts as a barrier against moisture, oxygen, and salts, preventing the formation of white rust (zinc hydroxide) and extending the li...

After zinc plating or galvanization, the metal is thoroughly cleaned to remove dirt, oils, and surface imperfections. The part is then dipped in an acidic passivation solution, often containing chromium salts. The acid slightly dissolves the zinc surface, allowing the chromium ions to react and form a dense, gel-like, crystalline film. This film is inert and significantly slows down the corrosion of the zinc coating itself, which in turn protects the base metal

Passivation Color include

1. Clear (Blue ) Passivation , Bright mettalic, moderate corrosion protection

2. Thick Film Passivation , Higher corrosion resistance, coloured iridescent

3. Black Trivalent Passivation, High visual appeal with good protection, popular in automotive, hardware

4. Yellow Trivalent Passivation, Traditional Hevalent yellow without ttoxicity
